Government Contracting :

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the PTAC award government contracts?

No. The PTAC does not award government contracts, nor do we have influence with the decision-making process. We assist companies with initiating their program to do business with the government, developing bids, and locating opportunities.

If I use the services of the PTAC, does it guarantee my business will receive government contracts?

No. While our past efforts have had demonstrable benefits to companies submitting bids, we cannot guarantee your business will receive contracts. Our services will help you complete registration, improve your bids, and locate opportunities.

My company is struggling financially, is government contracting a good way to fix this?

Working for the government requires dedication of resources to ensure compliance. Additionally, government agencies may consider your ability to perform work when bidding on projects. The government does not pay for contracts in advance, so companies will require the necessary cash flow to finance ongoing projects.

How do I gain experience with the government, if I can't win bids for government contracts because of a lack of experience with them?

There are several ways to gain experience with the government.

  1. Subcontracting to a prime contractor. This establishes a work-history, which may be used for future prime contracts.
  2. Bidding on small contracts, which may not require history with the government.
  3. Credit-card selling of small items to the government.

What type of effort does it require to do business with the government?

A good analogy is to compare your business dealings with the government as you would any other potential revenue stream. You will be required to contribute a modest amount of effort to the initial paperwork and registration, reviewing opportunities, and creation of bids. When successful, the benefits of participating frequently make the effort worthwhile, with long-term contracts and payment guarantees as results.

Does the PTAC create bids for clients?

No. The PTAC will review your bid for accuracy and search for areas of improvement but does not create proposals.

Does the PTAC certify companies as Small Disadvantaged Business, HUBZone, etc.?

No. The Small Business Administration - a separate entity - is responsible for the certification of businesses. We work closely with the SBA in many areas and can direct you to the appropriate personnel at the SBA.

How much do your services cost?

The PTAC provides consultation services at no cost to companies. Subscription to the BidMatch Notification system is $15.00 per month. Comparable bid-matching services from other sources - which search the same directories - are offered for as much as $199.00 per month.
