Steps For Getting Registered To Do Business With The Government

Established businesses must be registered before doing business with the government. Here is a checklist outlining the steps to take to register with the government and start working toward your contract.

  • Determine if your company is a small business and its small business classification. For more help on determining the size of your business go to www.sba.gov/size/sizetable2002.html .
  • Know your company’s classification. Your company must be classified by the NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes before being awarded government contracts. To learn more about your business’s NAICS classification, go to the Classifying Your Business section on this site.
  • Register on CCR (Central Contractor Registry) at www.ccr.gov.
  • Register with the State of Nebraska’s and your local government’s web sites.
  • Register with the Nebraska Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) nearest you.
  • Contact the Nebraska Business Development Center to set up a time to meet with one of our consultants.
  • Register for a GSA (General Services Administration) schedule.

Once you have completed this list you will be registered and well on your way to being awarded a government contract! The following list is provided courtesy of The Veterans Business Journal.
