Success Story: Sapper Construction
In October 2005 Sapper Construction was referred to the Omaha PTAC office by Kathleen Piper of the Small Business Administration (SBA). Sapper Construction is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business operated out of Lincoln. Sapper primarily conducts underground utility, directional boring, wireless telecommunication, and general contractor projects.
After the initial consultation session with PTAC Consultant Mike Hall, the Lincoln based company was transferred to consultant Joe Breault. A few days later, consultant Mary Graff found an opportunity for Sapper on the Federal Business Opportunities webpage. One of the hangars at Offutt Air Force Base required repairs to its fire suppression system. Joe explained the solicitation requirements to them. Then Sapper representatives contacted the contracting officer at Offutt to get more information concerning the project and arranged a walk through site visit. Sapper then contacted several potential sub-contractors for pricing and then placed a bid for the project.
On November 1, 2005 Sapper Construction was awarded the $300,000 contract. This is an example of committed PTAC team effort with three consultants involved in the solicitation and award process. Through this contract, managers at Sapper Construction hope to establish a solid reputation and performance history, and gain more business from Offutt. Sapper manager also wish to become reputable around Nebraska including the rest of the country.
