2007 Omaha 25 Excellence in Business Awards Luncheon

On Tuesday, May 15, 2007, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon at the Holiday Convention Centre with more than 700 in attendance, to honor the achievements of various companies and individuals. Twenty-five awards were given and of those twenty-five, seven were given to businesses that have consulted with the Nebraska Business Development Center, Procurement Technical Assistance Program. These award winners were:

Minority Business of the Year Award – V3 Technology Solutions, Inc.

V3 Technology Solutions, owned by Henry Vargas, is an IT company that provides computer and networking solutions to small and medium size businesses. The Minority in Business of the Year Award recognizes a successful ethnic minority-owned business that has demonstrated business growth and contributions to the community.

Small Business of the Year Award - Thrasher Basement Systems, Inc.

Thrasher Basement Systems, founded by Greg Thrasher in 1975, is one of the largest waterproofing and foundation repair contractors in Nebraska and western Iowa. The Small Business of the Year Award recognizes a business for its commitment to strong customer service and community involvement. The winner is chosen from the 2006 Small Business of the Month award winners.

Women in Leadership Award – Deb Bass, Bass & Associates, Inc., a HunTel Company

Deb Bass, President and CEO of Bass & Associates, founded the company in 1993. Ms. Bass worked as a surgical Registered Nurse for eleven years before deciding to own and run a business. Bass & Associates provides quality information technology consulting services. The Women in Leadership Award recognizes and honors women leaders who have excelled in their chosen field, devoted their time and energy to strengthen and transform the community, and mentor and develop others.

The Excellence in Business Awards is given to nineteen recipients within four categories determined by employee number; 1-25 employees, 26-75 employees, 76-125 employees and 126+ employees. Each winner has an operating history of at least five years, is recognized for positive revenue and payroll growth over the last three years, and demonstrates excellence in business practices. The following four businesses were recipients of this award.

Engineering, Automation & Design, owned by President and CEO, Stephen Lichter, specializes in designing and constructing process plants and works side by side with its clients through the basic design, estimating, preconstruction, construction phases, and on-going support to help clients compete more successfully in their markets.

2007 Excellence in Business Award Recipient (76-125 Employees) - Home Instead Senior Care

Home Instead Senior Care, founded by Lori and Paul Hogan in 1994, is an international company of independently owned and operated franchises that provide non-medical care for seniors. Home Instead offers companionship services to enable seniors to remain independent and in their own home.

2007 Excellence in Business Award Recipient (126+ Employees) – McCallie Associates, Inc.

McCallie Associates, owned by President and CEO Jennifer Maassen, was formed in 1982 in Bellevue, NE and is an Information Technology and Operational Support service provider to the Department of Defense (DoD) and to commercial customers.
