Expanding into new marketing opportunities will be the focus of a McCook “New Markets to New Profits” seminar on Tuesday, May 23 rd.
The seminar being brought to the McCook area by the McCook Economic Development Corporation, is targeted at existing businesses that have excess production capacity or are looking at additional marketing opportunities for their businesses. Nebraska Procurement Technical Assistance Center Consultant Scott Knapp says one of the key themes in the portion of the program he will present is “how much can your company afford to have its equipment and people at rest.” He said that often we find companies who are running at 60 to 70 percent of production which makes them barely a breakeven business. “We want to help those companies find business that can move them to the level of most efficient production so they may maximize the full potential of their business operation.
Knapp said “the focus is to look at marketing opportunities at the state and federal government level, and then possibly looking at items that might be produced for sale that are similar to items already being produced by the business.”
The Free seminar will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the McMillen Hall Room 213 on the campus of McCook Community College. In addition to MEDC and the college additional sponsors of the program are the Nebraska Business Development Center which is a part of the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration and the University of Nebraska Rural Initiatives.
Other presenters for the program are Jason Tuller and Odee Ingersoll. They are both Center Directors for the Nebraska Business Development Center. Their presentation will be on positioning the company for growth and other transitions.
Knapp also works with the Nebraska Business Development Center in the Procurement Technical Assistance Center which assists companies across Nebraska with doing business with government agencies. The Nebraska PTAC last year assisted Nebraska companies who completed $104 million in government sales.
