The Nebraska Business Development Center and the office of the Procurement Technical Assistance Consulting (PTAC) proudly recognize their client CCC Business Writing, a veteran-owned small business in Ashland, Nebraska. The company, owned by Dick Hatton and Sharon Hakel-Hatton, is a consulting and training company, specializing in written communication. Its mission is to help business professionals improve their writing skills.

Business writing skills have always been important. In today’s technological world, however, the need to write well is even more important than in the past. Business people are writing more, but less effectively and less correctly. “Poor writing in the workplace” notes Dick, “is epidemic. It’s also costly. Sharon and I want to help businesses maximize their performance and their profit by helping employees write more effectively.”

CCC Business Writing offers workshops and coaching sessions in the basic skills of grammar, punctuation, and usage; the principle of rhetoric; writing effective e-mails; and writing for an international audience. Sharon, who has a Ph.D. in English and an extensive background in curriculum development, the theory and practice of teaching writing, and the principles of adult learning, designs and delivers the training programs. As an instructor, she is engaging and thought-provoking, and her workshops are intense and highly interactive.

Unlike other companies in the field, CCC Business Writing uses online tools to measure the success of its training. Before participating in a workshop or coaching session, clients take an online assessment, which evaluates their writing needs. The assessment results and the company’s writing objectives determine the content of the program. After the workshop, clients take a second assessment to measure their mastery of the principles and skills presented during the training. Online reinforcement tools are also available to clients following the workshops.
