Lt. Governor Visit to Golight, Inc. |
By Scott Knapp Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy observed searchlights being adapted for use on HMMWVs when he visited Golight near Culburtson. Jerry Gohl president of Golight showed the Lieutenant Governor the line of searchlights the company manufacturers for many different applications. He explained to the Lieutenant Governor that in addition to the military applications for HMMWVs and other military vehicles the company provides its products to a variety of industries. Gohl told the Lt. Governor that many of their searchlights are mounted on boats. Other applications include utility companies, railroad companies and law enforcement. After looking over final production and shipping operations, the Lieutenant Governor visited with Gohl and the Golight sales staff about the sales of Golight products. Gohl and Ken Hazel gave the Lieutenant Governor an overview of the military sales, then talked about the GSA contract that the company has in place. Other sales personnel provided a briefing on some of the sales opportunities in their areas. The Lieutenant Governor then provided information on the Homeland Security opportunities that might be available. Then he went on to explain the recently opened Japan office of the Department of Economic Development. The group discussed how this might be of assistance to the company. The visit was a part of a visit to several Southwest Nebraska businesses. The day also included a roundtable discussion with several Southwest Nebraska businesses to discuss the issues facing those companies. Also on hand for the meeting were Department of Economic Development Consultant Tara Hosick and Scott Knapp, consultant for Nebraska Procurement Technical Assistance Center at Nebraska Business Development Center.
